The Chinese word ‘An Ju’ refers to living in peace and contentment. This purely observational short presents the daily life of a Tajik family living in southern Xinjiang.
On the one hand, the local government offers affordable housing (An Ju House, compulsory) for low-income residents in mountainous areas. On the other hand, the Tajik are more accustomed to nomadic lifestyles. Caught between modern civilization and traditional culture, one Tajik man seeks refuge in traditional music, crafting a folk instrument, the Rubab, and playing old songs to maintain his sense of stability…
